The winner and guest will stay for two nights at Callow Hall, The Sunday Times’s Hotel of the Year. Set in 35 acres not far from Ashbourne, this imposing Victorian country pile has just emerged from a three-year, £7 million renovation with mullioned windows intact and a fresh, modern interior from the designer Isabella Worsley. Think richly textured fabrics and plenty of strawberry, sage and teal in the colour scheme. There are 15 rooms in the main house to choose from, alongside four separate woodland Hives raised on stilts and panelled with rustic pallet wood.
Meals are served in the Garden Room, a chic glass-walled restaurant where the executive chef David Bukowicki plunders England’s larder for goodies such as Colchester oysters, Derbyshire steaks and Dovedale cheese. One dinner for two (excluding drinks) is included in the prize, along with a Classic Afternoon Tea for two.
