Competition Description

Lonely Planet has teamed up with up with the Grossarler Hof to offer you and a companion the chance to win a four-night luxury break in the Austrian Alps.

The Prize

– Two return economy flights from London to Salzburg

– Four nights at the Grossarler Hof on a half-board basis

– Two days’ bicycle hire and Grossarl Summer Card

– Two spa treatments in the Erlenreich Relax & Spa

– Private return airport transfers

After flying to Salzburg, a private transfer will take you an hour south across the mountains to the Alpine village of Grossarl, which gives its name to the whole valley – a patchwork of woods and meadows with plenty of traditional farmhouses.

The Grossarler Hof takes a few design cues from the rural architecture of the region, and makes something almost castle-like out of it. This mountain retreat is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, and your room here will feel both elegant and cosy.

Tiled stoves and woodgrain textures add rustic touches throughout the hotel, whether you’re tucking in to local venison and farmhouse cheeses over dinners of regional cuisine, or trying out an Alpine-inspired treatment at the Erlenreich Relax & Spa.

The hotel is handily close to one of the main gondola lifts in the village. While skiers hit Grossarl’s slopes in winter, Alpine flowers herald the switch to hiking and mountain-biking amid the surrounding peaks, within reach of the lofty wilderness of Hohe Tauern National Park.
